The Savannah Jazz Orchestra, heralded as the Coastal Empire's premier jazz ensemble, presents the exciting sounds of modern and traditional big band music. Co-led by Randall Reese and Teddy Adams, SJO is a 16-piece profestional big band that is comprised of top-notch free lance musicians in the Coastal Empire.
The large ensemble includes trumpets, trombones, saxophones, piano, bass, drums and fabulous vocals.
The ensemble proudly features the music of many regional and national composers & arrangers. SJO members showcase mainstream big-band jazz music at its best and have performed with some of the biggest names in jazz, including: Benny Golson, Jimmy Heath, Diane Schuur, Clark Terry and Bobby Watson.
The SJO performs four scheduled concerts every year, including tributes to Duke Ellington and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, as well as annually performing with a national headliner at the Savannah Jazz Festival.
SJO is an established Savannah professional ensemble that plays great accessible jazz with a polished appearance and stage demeanor. The goal of the Savannah Jazz Orchestra is to preserve and promote our nation's indigenous art form, jazz and to create professional performance opportunities for jazz musicians.
The SJO has recorded two CDs that are available at the Coastal Jazz Association monthly events.
